PLEASE be mindful of what you flush

An important message for our Spring Lake residents from our Water Operations Department:

“The Town of Spring Lake Water Operations is requesting that those who are currently sheltering at home due to the COVID-19 Virus DO NOT flush any products, other than toilet paper, down your toilet.

This includes baby wipes, diapers, feminine hygiene products, disinfectant wipes, paper towels or ANYTHING that isn’t actual toilet paper.

All other items must go directly into the trash. These are not meant to be flushed, as they do not break down in water quick enough to go through the pipes, hence causing clogs and possibly even more damage.

When these items are flushed, they WILL clog sewer pipes and pump stations, increase utility maintenance, create multiple environmental concerns, and cause extra work throughout the wastewater system.

Sanitary sewer systems are designed to accommodate toilet paper, which is made to disintegrate quickly in water. Nothing else.

It is proven that wipes, diapers and other materials will clog pipes, and this will lead to sewer backups into our homes and will from clogs down the line, impacting others.”

Thank you in advance.
