Cumberland County numbers for COVID-19 July 10th, 2020

July 10th, 2020

As reported from Cumberland County:

“The Department of Public Health reports 49 new COVID-19 cases since Monday, July 6.

Cumberland County’s case count is now 1,533.

In Cumberland County, 8% of COVID-19 tests taken over the past two weeks have been positive, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS).

The average for the state is 9%. The World Health Organization recommends a 5% positive rate.

“Since last week we’ve seen an increase in our daily number of cases,” said Health Director Dr. Jennifer Green. “While we are faring better than other areas around the state and county, these numbers are concerning to us. We want to see a 14-day downward trajectory or at minimum a sustained leveling, in the number of positive cases and the percentage of tests that are positive.”

As we continue to ramp up testing, there will be more laboratory-confirmed cases. Looking at what percent of total test are positive helps us understand whether laboratory-confirmed cases are increasing in comparison to the number of tests conducted.”
