COVID-19 updated numbers for Cumberland County July 13th, 2020

As reported from Cumberland County:

“The Department of Public Health reports more than 150 new COVID-19 cases since Friday, July 10.

Cumberland County’s case count is now 1,690.

In Cumberland County, an average of 9% of COVID-19 tests taken over the last two weeks have been positive, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS).

The average for the state is 10%. The World Health Organization recommends a 5% positive rate.

The Health Department reports three COVID-19 deaths of Cumberland County residents. None of the three individuals lived in congregate living settings, but all three had underlying medical conditions. Two of the patients were in their 60s and the third person was in their 80s.

There have been 44 deaths related to COVID-19 of Cumberland County residents.

  • 80% of deaths have been among individuals age 65 and older
  • 83% of deaths have been among males
  • 56% of deaths have been among African-Americans
  • 90% of deaths have been among individuals with underlying health conditions
  • 64% of deaths have been among individuals in congregate living settings
  • 69% of deaths have been among individuals who were hospitalized

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the families who have lost loved ones,” said Dr. Jennifer Green, Cumberland County Health Director.

“We’ve seen an increase in the percentage of tests that are positive over the last several weeks. We urge the public to practice their Ws, Wear a face covering when you are out in public, wait six feet apart, and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer,” Green said.

Testing Resource Line

The Health Department continues to offer drive-thru testing on Tuesdays and Thursdays while supplies last and staffing is available. Visit our Testing and Collection page to schedule an appointment. The Health Department has a new testing resource phone line to assist individuals with the online COVID-19 testing assessment. Those needing assistance with the online assessment tool should call 910-678-7657 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Pop-Up Testing in Cumberland County
As organizations partner with communities to increase testing across the state, NCDHHS wants to make sure North Carolinians know about the COVID-19 pop-up community testing events.

Anyone interested in getting tested should call (910) 672-2545 to confirm testing criteria, availability, hours and registration. The testing sites and dates are listed below. The test is FREE.
