What is Community Policing?
In the technical realm, Community Policing is defined as, “Collaborative partnerships between the law enforcement agency and the individuals and organizations they serve to develop solutions to problems and increase trust.” Community policing, recognizes that police rarely can solve public safety problems alone. Another bedrock of Community policing is that it encourages both the police department and the community to work together to be proactive in working together in developing solutions to the immediate underlying conditions contributing to public safety challenges that face them both. How do they achieve this? Through an array of avenues developed by them both – be it community watch groups, events, open communication, new initiatives, awareness campaigns, involvement and other avenues tailored to the needs of the community. Community policing does not replace the mission of the department; it enhances it.
It is the goal of the Spring Lake Police Department to foster relationships with the community.

initiatives and active partnerships the Spring
Lake Police Department currently has in place.
As we continue to grow and expand, these will as well.

NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT TEAM
The Neighborhood Improvement Team (NIT) is a unit dedicated to improving Spring Lake by:
Increased neighborhood presence
Community involvement
Addressing known concerns
Citizen and business engagement
………..and more. We are here to serve you. The NIT is a specialized Unit of the Spring Lake Police Department dedicated to improving Spring Lake by increasing community involvement, working tip line follow-ups, acting on resident and business concerns and being a visible part of the community.
You can assist the NIT by being the eyes and ears of your neighborhood.
If you see or hear something, report it.

You may also stop by the Police Station (non-emergency) at 910-436-0350 or
the Police Annex at 910-436-7167.
Remember, in any emergency situation, always call 911.

The Spring Lake Police Department strives to do its part to support the community how and when it can. That is why it is excited about the “Spring Lake Police Department Community Closet.” They recognize there are times when the smallest item can make the biggest impact. The SLPD Community Closet is just getting started but we know with contributions from the community, will continue to grow and thrive. They are limited (due to space) but they are so excited about what they have to offer and the ability to help the community. So far, the SLPD’s community Closet has coats, scarves, socks, personal hygiene products, stuffed animals and a few other small items.
The SLPD’s Community closet would not be possible without the generous support of the community. We would like to take a moment and thank: Spring Lake Ministerial Alliance, Cruciform Church of Christ, Pastor Alan Smith (who has donated 122 coats this winter) and Janine Schlienz & Ava Bagosian (who have donated scarves & socks.) Because of these individuals and organizations, the SLPD’s Community Closet has been able to “get started” and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it has here in Spring Lake.
